Nursing Transition

Students will have the opportunity to obtain skills required to practice as a practical nurse while working with physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team in a clinical environment. The curriculum is rigorous and consists of classroom, lab, and clinical instruction in a variety of clinical areas. The career major is designed to prepare students to utilize communication, critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills as they provide quality patient care. Applicants must be high school juniors who are enrolled in the Health Careers Certification course at Indian Capital Technology Center. Nursing Transition students attend class at the Muskogee campus from 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. Monday through Friday throughout their senior year of high school and begin as full-time adult students upon high school graduation. Program completion occurs in December (following high school graduation), and graduates may be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NLCEX-PN) and apply for licensure as a practical nurse. Instructional format includes lecture, hands-on and interactive activities, laboratory practice, and clinical experience. Clinical experience can be 3 or more days per week at sites within the Muskogee area.
