Nursing Transition
Description
Students will have the opportunity to obtain skills required to practice as a practical nurse while working with
physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team in a clinical environment. The curriculum is
rigorous and consists of classroom, lab, and clinical instruction in a variety of clinical areas. The career major is
designed to prepare students to utilize communication, critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills as they
provide quality patient care.
Applicants must be high school juniors who are enrolled in the Health Careers Certification course at Indian
Capital Technology Center.
Nursing Transition students attend class at the Muskogee campus from 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. Monday through
Friday throughout their senior year of high school and begin as full-time adult students upon high school
graduation. Program completion occurs in December (following high school graduation), and graduates may be
eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NLCEX-PN) and apply for licensure as a practical nurse.
Instructional format includes lecture, hands-on and interactive activities, laboratory practice, and clinical
experience. Clinical experience can be 3 or more days per week at sites within the Muskogee area.
